The words written to Lee were inspired by a great writer of old.

Of all the places this film could have begun, it started with a letter. One of the members of our team, Ava Berkau, discovered this handwritten note with her father before the script was ever written. The letter was written by her grandfather when her father was in his twenties, and it was never simply directions for a trip. It was full of love and carried warmth, faith, patience, and a quiet hope for connection across generations. Within its words were memories of shared places, time spent near the water, and guidance offered without expectation.

As a team, we were drawn to the gentleness of the letter and the way it speaks through presence rather than explanation. It offers guidance without control and love without asking for anything in return. Using a rewritten version of this letter as the foundation, we shaped the script around its heart rather than its plot. The film became a reflection on legacy, on listening, and on how love continues to guide us long after the voice that first spoke it is gone.
